Rally Obedience

This class is geared for dog owners wanting to compete at AKC/UKC/ASCA, etc Rally dog Shows. Rally is a set of signs that have instructions on them. The signs are set up as a course. The dog and owner walk the course stopping at the signs and follow the direction on each sign. The owner makes the dog do what is written on the sign and then moves on to the next sign.

For those competing in obedience at dog shows. Designed for the dog owner who wants to compete in the Regular Obedience classes at AKC/UKC/ASCA,etc dog shows. The owner and dog are run thru routines they would encounter while competing at these dogs shows.Minimal drop in fee per run thru.
Group Heeling class (Intermediate class)                   $10/ 1 hour

Open to anyone wishing to continue their training, or prep their dog for Dog shows. The group heeling class is geared for the dog owners who wish to further their dogs training past a beginner class. In this class they perfect their training. It is also open to anyone who wished to continue their training to perfect their dogs performance to compete at AKC/UKC/ASCA,etc shows. Minimal drop in fee for the hour.
Beginner Class                                                                      $90.00     
Thursday 10:30-11:30                          with Donna Blews Pappas     

This class is open to all pet owners, and even those who show, who wish to learn how to train their own dog, or starting out a new dog in training. Tips are given on all aspects of dog training and behavior. Lessons taught are: walking on a loose leash, respond always to your commands for sit, stand, stay, come when called. Other topics touched upon are unwanted behaviors in the home and out in public areas, and how to work to remove these behaviors to make the dog a better Canine Citizen around all distractions. 6 week class meeting once a week for 1 hour. Homework is given each week and reviewed the next week of class.

Taught according to the AKC guidelines for the AKC STAR Puppy program. All puppies completing the 6 week beginner class who are between the ages of 3 months to 1 year will receive an application to be sent into AKC (the American Kennel Club) to receive the AKC Star Puppy certificate and medal. This program is open to all puppies purebred and mixbreed and designer breed

Novice Skills                                                              $10 | Drop in

 This class will focus on teaching and improving your dog's attention, heeling, fronts and finishes, stays, recalls and other skills needed for the AKC and CDSP Novice levels of Competition Obedience. Ideal for owners or dogs and puppies that are beginning competition training or who want to continue to work on the precision of their behaviors.  All skills taught using positive reinforcement and a clicker or verbal marker.  Bring a variety of small, soft treats and a tug toy.
Advanced Agility

Agility can be a great sport for you and your dog even if you never plan on competing in the sport. All dogs can enjoy the sport. They will learn confidence, obedience and will build a great bond with you.


 Puppy Life Skills 1                                                  $110 | 6 sessions

Teach your dog with innovative positive reinforcement and clicker training techniques!

• Learn walking on leash, sit, down, name response, settle on a mat and other basic and fun behaviors.
• Start teaching an emergency recall.
• Tips for managing and changing unwanted behaviors.

 Puppy Life Skills 2                                                  $95 | 6 sessions   
 Friday 7:00-8:00pm                                    with Sue Rivers KPA CTP 

• Continue to practice and improve basic skills and recalls.
• Start teaching fun tricks needed for the new AKC Trick Dog titles.
• Practice the skills needed for the Canine Good Citizen test.

Bring to class: flat collar or harness, maximum 6’ leash, lots of small, easy to swallow treats, a treat/bait bag and a tug toy for dogs who are reinforced by toys.

Donna Blews-Pappas has been involved with dogs and dog related activities since 1975. Also a member of the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI), she has been the owner of D.O.G.S since 1989 and has been conducting Group Beginner Classes, Advanced Classes, and private lessons. Donna also gives instruction for the Competitive Dog Show Exhibitor with instruction in Novice, Open, Utility and Rally.

Jim has been training dogs all his life, but after retiring from the U.S. Air Force, (Field Medic), he started working with dogs in Behavior Modification, Dog Sports and in basic dog training skills.

But Pyro, one of Jim’s dogs has helped him learn more than any formal training class could ever do. Pyro is an Australian Shepherd, a herding breed, that has dog to dog issues, hyper anxiety levels and is hyper vigilant. Jim wanted to help him to live in our human world and in this effort he traveled, with Pyro throughout the U.S. working with some of the best trainers in the U.S.

Sue Rivers is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Dog Trainer (KPA CTP) offering Puppy Life Skills and Competition Obedience classes. She began clicker training with her own dogs in 1996 and has been enthusiastic about using positive reinforcement to teach animals ever since.

Sue is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training and Behavior, graduating from their Dog Trainer Professional program with distinction in January 2010.  She continues to attend seminars, workshops and take courses for updates on the latest innovations, knowledge and science on dog training and behavior. 

Sue has trained and shown her dogs in AKC venues for Agility, Rally Obedience and Obedience through Utility, earning many placements and multiple High in Trials.  She is currently enjoying training and preparing her Border Collies to show in Novice and Utility.
