Dog Training with Jennifer Fortin in Ware
My name is Jennifer, and I will be your instructor for the duration of this course. I’ve been working with and training dogs for over 20 years. I’ve managed kennels that held some of the most feared breeds of dogs and some of the most troubled. I’ve worked with your normal house dog and I’ve worked with dogs through therapeutic training. Every single dog has taught me something new, and with this experience, I’m eager to work with every one of you.
I’m not here to train your dog, I’m here to train you to train your dog. I’m here to help you recognize and understand certain behaviors from your dog, and how to address them. My goal is for you to have a dog you can enjoy, bring anywhere and are proud of the dog that you’ve trained. Therefore, your dog is not the only one who will benefit from class.
Training classes tend to run for seven weeks, meeting for an hour once per week. Practice is important and I send homework sheets after every lesson, for this reason. If you’re working with your dog only once per week at class, but not reinforcing that learning at home, you won’t be doing either of you any favors. Without consistency your dog may struggle with the basics. Five minutes a few times per day to practice the skills you are learning at class will do just fine.
Puppy – Obedience I 7 Weeks $110
Learning age-appropriate behaviors in a fun, relaxed environment, designed to introduce your puppy to basic skills that will set the foundation for later learning. This class will cover the basics such as loose leash walking, coming when called, sit, down, stay, leave it, and an introduction to the heel position. We will also cover the handler basic training formulas, management techniques, and problem solving strategies – all while providing developmentally critical opportunities for early socialization and confidence building.
Obedience II 7 Weeks $110
In this class dog and handler will learn, practice, and finish with a solid understanding of basic obedience. We will strongly focus on sit, come, down, stay, wait, and the heel position. Special attention on good manners like not jumping up and the importance of marker training are a strong focus as well. You will be introduced to the basics for getting and keeping your dog’s attention, even in distracting environments. More emphasis is put on handling skills, while the dogs become more solid in the beginning exercises and learn new behaviors. We’ll incorporate games and challenges to help make obedience less of a chore and much more fun.
Obedience III 7 Weeks $110

Obedience Drop-In Class 1 hour $10
Socialization Drop-In Class 1 hour $10
Why would you want to socialize a dog?
A socialized dog tends to accept new people, places, things and experiences easier than he/she would if not socialized. Socialization is incredibly important for a dog and entails more than just exposing your dog to other dogs. In order to be thoroughly socialized, a dog needs exposure to a variety of people of different sizes, shapes, races, genders, ethnicities, etc. The dog also needs exposure to a variety of environments, sounds, objects, animals, and of course, other dogs.
